Best Breakfast Spots on Vero Beach's Barrier Island
The Lemon Tree, Maison Martinique Brunch, and the rest of the island's morning rotation.
The barrier island has a small but committed breakfast scene. A handful of spots have served the same regulars for decades, a few hotels run brunch programs worth booking, and one or two newer arrivals have changed the morning map. Here is the working list a long-time resident actually uses, in rough order of how often it gets recommended.
1. Lemon Tree
Where: Ocean Drive, Central Beach village.
Why it leads: Open since the 1970s. Counter seats, vinyl booths, paper menus, and a daily-special board that has not changed format in forty years. Order eggs and bacon, get eggs and bacon. The Lemon Tree is the closest thing the island has to a community breakfast room. Cash and card accepted; reservations are not.
2. The Wind and Waves Grill at Disney's Vero Beach Resort
Where: A1A north of Wabasso.
Why it earns the spot: Open to the public, not just resort guests. Big breakfast buffet on Sundays, ocean views from most tables, and the easiest reservation north of John's Island. North-island residents lean on this one.
3. The Tides Brunch (Sundays)
Where: Cardinal Drive, Central Beach.
What it offers: A more refined brunch program with the same kitchen that drives the Tides' dinner reputation. Books up. Worth planning a week ahead.
4. Cobalt at the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa
Where: Ocean Drive, oceanfront.
Why it works: The only Central Beach breakfast room with the surf line in your sight. Coastal-American menu, strong coffee program, and one of the better hotel-restaurant breakfasts on the coast.
5. Maison Martinique Brunch
Where: Inside the Caribbean Court Boutique Hotel, north of the Central Beach village.
What's special: French Caribbean morning menu, courtyard seating, and the slowest-paced brunch on the island for guests who want to linger. A standout for a special occasion or a houseguest who has already done Lemon Tree.
6. Ocean Grill Sunday Breakfast (Seasonal)
Where: Sexton Plaza, oceanfront.
Worth knowing: The Ocean Grill is best known for dinner, but its seasonal Sunday breakfast service brings the same Atlantic view and pecky cypress room to the morning crowd. Confirm dates before you go; the schedule changes year to year.
7. Costa d'Este Pool-Side Breakfast
Where: Ocean Drive, oceanfront.
What's underrated: Most non-guests do not realize Costa d'Este's restaurant serves a public breakfast. The poolside seating is one of the better quiet morning options on the island.
8. Coffee-First Stops
If breakfast is a coffee and a pastry rather than a sit-down meal, the rotation is shorter but consistent: Sunshine Foods Vero Beach Coffee Bar on Cardinal Drive, the espresso program at the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa lobby, and the morning counter at Riverside Cafe for an early start before a paddleboard launch, the same deck is one of the island's best sunset spots in the evening.
Practical Notes
- Season changes everything. January through April, plan ahead at any of the brunch programs above. Off-season, walking in is usually fine.
- Park once. The Central Beach village stops are within a five-minute walk of one another. Park near Humiston Park and pick the spot with the shortest line. The Central Beach walking loop connects all of them.
- Sunday is the busiest morning. Saturday is calmer at most of these rooms.
