The North Beach Neighborhood
North of the Disney resort, A1A gets quieter and the island turns to large master-planned communities, many of them guard-gated, built around golf, racquet sports and private beach clubs.
Best for: Buyers who want a secure, amenity-rich address where the club is the center of social life and there is little reason to leave the gate.
Club Living at the North End
The north island is where Vero's best-known private clubs sit. Orchid Island has an Arnold Palmer golf course and more than a mile of private beach, and Windsor pairs a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course with an equestrian center and polo field.
Most communities here are planned from the ground up, with gatehouses, clubhouses, pools and courts inside the walls. Social calendars run through the club, so neighbors tend to become friends quickly.
Quieter Streets, Longer Drives
The tradeoff for privacy is distance. Ocean Drive's restaurants and shops are a 15 to 25 minute drive, and the Wabasso Causeway is the closest bridge to the mainland.
Not everything up north is a club. Smaller communities such as Old Orchid and Summerplace offer single-family homes without membership dues.
